XLI International VAKKI Symposium
February 11–12, 2021, virtually in Zoom
The virtual XLI VAKKI Symposium was arranged under the theme of Workplace Communication. This year, VAKKI Research Association invites all participants of the XLI VAKKI Symposium to submit a proposal for an article to be included in the upcoming volume of VAKKI Publications. Please submit your extended abstract by March 12, 2021 to publication@vakki.net. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by the end of March. Deadline for submission of full-length manuscripts (based on the accepted abstracts) is May 3, 2021. Article proposals are selected for publication through a double blind review procedure.

2nd Call for Papers
Welcome to the XLI symposium of VAKKI ry on February 11–12, 2021! Due to the restrictions with respect to large gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium 2021 will be held virtually via Zoom online platform. The virtual symposium is free of charge.
The symposium is arranged under the theme of Workplace Communication. Workplace communication comprises many different forms, such as texts, face-to-face meetings as well as digital interaction. The common nominator to these settings is that they are connected with professional roles and identities and interwoven with institutional practices.
The Symposium’s keynotes will be on the first day, Thursday, February 11, 2021, and the speakers are:
- Assistant Professor Emma Christensen (Roskilde University) and Professor Lars Thøger Christensen (Copenhagen Business School)
- Examining the (Re)presentational Voice
- Professor Samantha Warren (University of Portsmouth)
- Using Instagram in a participant-led field study: Reflections on the politics of organizational communication and identity
On the second day of the symposium, February 12, 2021, there are six thematic panel sessions with multiform executions arranged. The purpose of the thematic panel sessions is to provide the participants with the opportunity to exchange ideas and to share practical experiences on focused topics.
Two of the thematic panel sessions are open for presentations. We call for presentation abstracts to the following thematic panel sessions:
- Perspectives to responsibility in organizational communication
- Terms and conditions – working with terminology during a pandemic
Please submit your abstract (max. 300 words) to symposium[at]vakki.net as an attachment (in .rtf or .doc format) by December 22, 2020. Please state in the message your name(s), your affiliation(s) and the title of the thematic panel session. The presentations will be selected based on the scientific quality of the abstract. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by January 8, 2021.
In addition, the symposium features the following thematic panel sessions for which you can register:
- Digimaailman tasa-arvo ja multimodaalinen käytettävyys (in Finnish)
- Käsitteiden omaksuminen ja käyttö politiikan ja lainsäädäntötyön kontekstissa: Tarkastelussa Suomen liikennepalvelulakiprosessi (2015-2019) (in Finnish)
- Sprachen, Diskurse und Kommunikationsfertigkeiten im Berufsleben und in der akademischen Welt. Ein plurilingualer Sprachmittlungsworkshop (B1 German is required)
- Terminology and mediation in workplace communication
Registration for the symposium’s keynotes and/or thematic panel sessions opens on December 17, 2020 and ends on January 31, 2021.
The working languages of the symposium are Finnish, Swedish, English and German. After the symposium, all participants are invited to submit papers connecting to the theme of Workplace Communication to the VAKKI publication, which is a peer-reviewed open access publication (JUFO-level 1). More information will be sent to the participants after the symposium. The publication will be published at the end of 2021.

2. Rundbrief: Call for Papers
Willkommen zum XLI. Symposium des VAKKI-Vereins 11.-12.2.2021! Wegen Einschränkungen bzgl. größerer Zusammenkünfte in Zeiten der Covid-19-Pandemie wird das Symposium 2021 virtuell in Zoom veranstaltet. Die Teilnahme am virtuellen Symposium ist gebührenfrei.
Das Thema des Symposiums ist Kommunikation im Berufsleben. Das Thema deckt viele verschiedene Kommunikationsformen ab wie Texte, Sitzungen und Treffen sowie digitale Kommunikation. Diesen verschiedenen Situationen ist gemeinsam, dass sie mit beruflichen Rollen und Identitäten sowie institutionellen Praktiken verbunden sind.
Die Plenarvorträge werden am ersten Tag des Symposiums, Donnerstag, 11.2.2021, gehalten. Die Plenarvortragenden sind:

Am zweiten Tag des Symposiums, Freitag, 12.2.2021, werden sechs verschiedene Workshops mit unterschiedlichen Themen und Durchführungsformen veranstaltet. Das Ziel mit den Workshops ist es, den Teilnehmenden Möglichkeiten zu Diskussion und Erfahrungsaustausch zu einem abgegrenzten Thema anzubieten.
In zwei von den Workshops können die Teilnehmenden Vorträge halten. Wir heißen Abstracts für Vorträgein den folgenden Workshops willkommen:

Wir bitten Sie, Ihr Abstract per E-Mail (rtf- oder doc-Format) bis zum 22.12.2020 an die Adresse symposium[at]vakki.net zu schicken. In der Mail sollen Name/Namen des/der Vortragenden, Universität und Workshop mitgeteilt werden. Die Vorträge werden auf Basis der wissenschaftlichen Qualität der Abstracts ausgewählt. Spätestens am 8.1.2021 benachrichtigen wir über die Annahme der Vorträge.
Zusätzlich werden folgende Workshops veranstaltet, an denen eine Teilnahme durch Anmeldung möglich sein wird:

Die Anmeldung zu den Plenarvorträgen und/oder Workshops des Symposiums wird am 17.12.2020 eingeleitet und am 31.1.2021 beendet.
Die Arbeitssprachen des Symposiums sind Finnisch, Schwedisch, Englisch und Deutsch. Nach dem Symposium haben alle Teilnehmenden am Symposium die Möglichkeit, ein Manuskript zum Thema Kommunikation im Berufsleben für eine peer-reviewte open access -Publikation (JUFO1) einzureichen, die Ende des Jahres 2021 herausgegeben wird. Weitere Informationen werden nach dem Symposium an die Teilnehmenden geschickt.
