Terms are used in all areas of specialization. They constitute a central component in international co-operation across borders and domains and occur frequently also in general linguistic communication. Consequently, terms are an important resource from the perspective of language policies and ideologies as they promote the use of a certain language in all contexts.
The purpose of the project is to clarify how a number of central institutional actors act and interact with each other in terminological questions in Sweden from the 1940’s and onwards. The project is expected to identify various possibilities and challenges for terminological work as a linguistic infrastructure in Sweden today and in the future.
The project generates new knowledge about the mechanisms in terminological processes, investigates the terminology regulation work both a national and an international framework and promotes enhanced understanding of the significance of terminological work and of linguistic resources inherent in LSP.
