Dr. Mikko Ranta is an assistant professor of accounting (tenure track) at the School of Accounting and Finance and a member of the Digital Economy research platform at the University of Vaasa, Finland. His research interests include data analytics, FinTech, and machine learning and their impact and applications on the accounting profession and research. In data analytics, his main research areas include alternative datasets for business research, like satellite-based remote sensing data.

Rathan Kumar is a Project coordinator at the Digital Economy research platform at the University of Vaasa, Finland. His interests lie in new technology and its possibilities to disrupt certain research sectors. He has previously worked on and led multidisciplinary projects in India, Germany and Finland. He has worked to build a Space Ecosystem in Ostrobothnia, Finland called the Kvarken Space Center through a EU-funded project KvarkenSpaceEco. His experience in research, software engineering and entrepreneurship form the basis of his role in the project. ​

Dr Iolanda Ialongo is a Senior Research Scientist at the Space and Earth Observation Centre, FMI and lecturer at the University of Helsinki on the topic of Remote sensing of the atmosphere. She specializes in atmospheric remote sensing, including air pollution and greenhouse gases with focus on emissions estimation. Recently, her research focused on increasing the societal impact of satellite-based atmospheric observations, e.g., contributing to air quality national assessment as well as industrial emission monitoring and environmental sustainability reporting.

Johanna Haveri is a Project coordinator at the Digital Economy research platform at the University of Vaasa, Finland. She is interested in all kind of new development and enjoys communicating of it. Her previous experience in journalism, entrepreneurship, sales and development have shaped her communication and networking skills. At the Digital Economy research platform, she has worked in several projects related to utilization of space-based data.

Kendall Rutledge is currently the Research Program Manager for Space Activities within the Digital Economy Research Platform at the University of Vaasa. He has worked in the fields of atmospheric acoustics, satellite instrument algorithm development and ocean-atmosphere observation systems as a NASA contractor in the USA. This work included instrumenting, calibrating and operating instruments on an offshore observation platform to support components of NASA’s Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System program. Recently he has developed or help develop projects associated with wind, ice and space in Scandinavia.

Cem Özcan is a Software Engineer who works as a Programmer while doing his PhD at the University of Vaasa. Cem is presently evaluating data measured from satellite, aircraft or ground based platforms to generate maps or databases. He is experienced in machine learning and data processing. Formerly he participated in the NoICE project to analyze GNSS data to predict atmospheric icing.

Henrik Virta is a Research Scientist at the Space and Earth Observation Centre, FMI, and a doctoral student at the Doctoral Programme in Atmospheric Sciences, University of Helsinki.
