NordiCHI 2026 welcomes proposals for tutorials. Tutorials are an integral part of the conference and are essential platforms for sharing theoretical knowledge and practical experiences within the NordiCHI community. Each tutorial can run for example half a day (up to 4 hours) or a full day (up to 8 hours) on either of the pre-conference days (October 3th or October 4th) with coffee and lunch breaks in between. Also, if there is a tutorial that is directed towards industry-participants, it can be discussed whether it could be held during the industry-day (Wednesday, October 7th). The pre-conference days of NordiCHI 2026 will take place in-person at Åbo Akademi University in Vaasa, Finland.
What is a tutorial?
Tutorials offer practitioners, students and researchers the opportunity to extend their knowledge into new areas of expertise and to learn about specific concepts, methods and techniques from recognized field experts. The NordiCHI 2026 conference would like to offer a wide variety of tutorials for researchers, practitioners, designers, developers, managers and students.
We invite proposals for tutorials focusing on all themes of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field, and in particular, we invite tutorials focusing on the theme of the conference: Pulse – exploring the energy that drives us. Thus, we encourage instructors to adopt a holistic and broad approach that includes not only sustainability but also human, cultural, and social energy, with tutorials focusing on new and emerging areas, methods and technologies, or to experiment with new forms of instruction and innovative perspectives in an HCI context. We also welcome proposals for tutorials on foundational themes of HCI.
The accepted tutorials will run in the university lecture or meeting rooms, the size of which is determined by the number of registered participants. We can provide a projector and screen. Additional technical requirements must be discussed with the chairs.
Submission Instructions and Schedule
Submissions should NOT be anonymised. See submission instructions (link updated later) for details on how to submit. Submissions can be up to four pages long (excluding references) in the ACM standard single-column format.
Tutorial submissions should be self-contained and clearly provide a detailed description including:
- Title of the tutorial
- Names and affiliations of the organizers
- An abstract describing the aims, objectives, benefits and significance of the proposed tutorial
- A scheduled overview of planned activities and format
- Prerequisites / level; skills and knowledge the attendees will gain as a result of attending the tutorial
- The promotional strategy, detailing how the organizers plan to recruit and select participants
- Organizers’ background, provided as short biographical notes
- Tutorial program and duration.
- On site requirements (e.g., seats arrangements, materials, etc.)
Selection Process
The selection process is curated. Tutorial selection will happen by the discretion of the Tutorials Chairs. Acceptance of proposals will be informed by factors such as:
- Clarity of intended outcomes
- Value for the participants
- Level of expected interest
- Impact and relevance to the NordiCHI’s broad audience
- Profile of the organizers
No contributions/submissions are expected from participants of the accepted tutorials. Participants of accepted tutorials must register for the conference.
Additional conditions
Although accepted tutorials will be announced through the NordiCHI 2026 website, we encourage tutorial organisers to advertise their tutorials and encourage participants to sign up for them. Please note that the period between the notification of acceptance and the required public announcement is short, so plan accordingly.
Tutorials are run with at least 5 participants registered by the early bird registration deadline so organisers should be active in promoting the tutorial to relevant audiences.
