{"id":1191,"date":"2024-11-25T10:53:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-25T08:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.uwasa.fi\/vakki\/?page_id=1191"},"modified":"2026-02-11T17:15:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T15:15:51","slug":"conceptsus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.uwasa.fi\/vakki\/en\/symposium-2026\/workshops\/conceptsus\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201dConceptsus\u201d 13.2 at 9.30"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Organizer: the board of European Association for Terminology (EAFT)<\/p>\n<p>In an era when AI is being discussed all over both as a possible helper and a possible replacement for \u201creal\u201d terminologists, it is interesting to discuss the traditional methods and HI (human in telligence) in <strong>terminology work<\/strong>, e.g. when a group discusses and reaches consensus about ter minology (concept systems, definitions, terms etc.).<\/p>\n<p>An interest in reaching consensus and methods for doing so are not new (Shaw &amp; Gaines 1989; Costa, Silva &amp; Barros 2012) (e.g. Pierre Lewalle spoke about the Delphi method at the Confer ence for a terminology infrastructure in Europe in 20001), but recently (Byrman &amp; Nord 2025; Tonin 2024; Nilsson 2022) research has been done on how terminology consensus happen and the role of the terminologist in expert meetings in what could be called a sort of \u201csociology of terminology\u201d (cf. sociology of translation). Existing terminologist profiles have also been up dated with soft skills, e.g. facilitation and elicitation, but this need to be studied and researched more. Therefore, a closer look at the role of the \u201chuman in the terminology loop\u201d is motivated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conceptsus is the title of a workshop where we discuss these and other related matters, e.g.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When is consensus needed in terminology work? And how is it achieved?<\/li>\n<li>How can consensus-making and roles in terminology meetings be studied?<\/li>\n<li>What are typical terminological conflicts, why do they appear and how can they be solved?<\/li>\n<li>What soft skills are needed for terminologists in order to handle conflict and achieve consensus in terminology?<\/li>\n<li>Consensus vs diversity and variation in terminology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The workshop is intended for terminologists and others who work with concept analysis, defini tions and terms in groups of human experts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>References<\/p>\n<p>Byrman, Y., &amp; Nord, A.
