As the primary research actor in Silent Engine, the University of Vaasa<\/a> will handle two key phenomena that cause engine noise \u2013 the so-called airborne noise and exhaust noise. Vibration excitations and related structure-borne noise will be handled by W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 and Vibrol in connected company projects.<\/p>\n

The Silent Engine project is directly linked to the Business Finland Veturi ecosystem \u201cZero Emission Marine<\/a>\u201d (ZEM) programme initiated by W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 (2022\u20132025). Silent Engine contributes in several ways. For instance, Silent Engine secures real-world emission (including noise) compliance for technologies which enable the introduction of green fuels \u2013 one of the main focuses of the university\u2019s research platform VEBIC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In addition to the strong commitment from\u00a0W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4<\/a>, the other companies in the project steering group are monitoring and guiding the research. The companies include\u00a0Meyer Turku<\/a>,\u00a0AGCO Power<\/a>,\u00a0KONE<\/a>, and\u00a0Vibrol<\/a>.<\/p>\n

International collaboration partners<\/h2>\n

Silent Engine project has seven international collaboration partners: University of South-Eastern Norway<\/a> (Norway), Warsaw University of Technology<\/a> (Poland), BOSMAL Automotive Research and Development Institute Ltd<\/a> (Poland),\u00a0 Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University<\/a> (Australia), Lublin University of Technology<\/a> (Poland),\u00a0 University of Technology Malaysia<\/a> (Malaysia) and Accelleron industries<\/a>.
