You are most welcome to the seminar with a focus on Circular Economy. In this seminar, we have presentations from Bening Mayanti and Clara Rajalehto.
Bening Mayanti: Sustainable manufacturing: Making environmental impacts calculation more accessible with rapid modelling tool
To date, life cycle assessment (LCA) is the most effective tool available to quantify environmental impacts of products or activities (e.g., climate change impacts in kg CO2 eq). However, in practice, applying LCA can be tedious and costly as it requires expertise, time, and iteration. Making it more accessible by designing a tailored tool that can be operated by inexperienced LCA users, including automating the report writing process, can be the key to supporting SMEs in implementing LCA. The seminar presentation will be based on ongoing work in the SuMEx project.
Bio
Bening Mayanti is a postdoctoral researcher in the Industrial Management department. Her focus is on the environmental impact calculation of products or activities because moving beyond the economic impact by including the environmental aspect in decision-making cannot be more important.
Clara Rajalehto: Waste Logistics in Sparsely Populated Areas
Efficient waste logistics are crucial for increasing recycling rates and reducing emissions, particularly in sparsely populated rural regions. This study analyses logistical models for household waste collection in the Suupohja area, focusing on the optimisation of collection routes, the use of intermediate storage, and the applicability of hub-and-spoke systems to support more sustainable and cost-effective waste management.
Bio
Clara Rajalehto is a doctoral researcher in Industrial Management at the School of Technology and Innovations. Her research focuses on the techno-economic assessment of sustainable freight transport, transportation emissions accounting, and logistics network optimisation.
Warm welcome,
