Services

The University of Vaasa has conceptualised and piloted neuro-friendly services and now organises them on a regular basis. Through these activities, we gather experiences and feedback on students’ needs and on the impact of different forms of support on studying, focus, and recovery. We actively listen to students’ wishes and respond with low-threshold actions, such as developing services, organising student activities, offering training, and making practical improvements, including equipment and environmental adjustments. The services are open to all students and benefit everyone:

🧠Powerhours are weekly neuro-friendly study sessions in a calm, sensory-friendly space (Students in Vaasa, read more in Jolla)
🧠One-to-one neuropsychiatric coaching are offered to students at University of Vaasa for study planning and study skills (Students in Vaara, learn more in Jolla)
🧠Recovery activities have been organized based on students’ needs and feedback. They includ forest walks, recovery sessions, and other low-threshold wellbeing activities
🧠Community-building activities are opportunities to connect in a safe and inclusive environment
🧠Neurodiversity awareness events for students and organisations, and participation in external events
🧠Sensory-friendly spaces at Fabriikki  include a sensory room, quiet exam and work space, and a dark room for sensory rest

Sensory-friendly Spaces

At Fabriikki at the University of Vaasa, students have access to sensory-friendly spaces: sensory room (F221), a quiet exam and work space, and a dark room for sensory rest. The spaces are open to students according to the rules and during Fabriikki’s opening hours.

Neuropsychiatric Coaching

We offer cost-free individual neuropsychiatric coaching services to students at the University of Vaasa. You can contact the coaches Heini Pensar (bachelor and master students) or William Degbey (post-graduates) for support with issues such as falling behind in your studies, managing everyday life, and difficulties with focus and concentration. Heini meets students at Fabriikki, room F212D (opposite the Sensory Room F221). We collaborate with study psychologist Juha Simola.
