Sensory-friendly study spaces

At Fabriikki at the University of Vaasa, students have access to a sensory-friendly room (F221), a quiet exam and work space, and a dark room for sensory rest. The spaces are open to students according to the rules and during Fabriikki’s opening hours. The spaces are located in the second floor.

Sensory room

The sensory-friendly room has two desks for quiet work. Noise-cancelling headphones are available. The room includes comfortable armchairs and bean bags, adjustable lighting, a nature video, and nature sounds. There is also a gym ball, a trampoline, and other tools to support recovery and relaxation.

Please follow these rules when using the room:

📌Remove shoes and outerwear when entering the room
📌Do not bring food into the room
📌Avoid strong scents
📌Keep noise low
📌Maximum of 6 people at a time
📌No booking is needed; you may enter if there is space
📌Do not remove equipment from the room

Dark room

The dark room can be made almost silent and completely dark. A weighted blanket is available to support calming and rest. One person at a time.

Quiet exam and work space

The quiet exam space is used for EXAM exams. When the space is not in exam use, it can be used as a quiet work space. If the door is locked, please ask the caretaker or building services to open it for you.

Please leave the spaces clean and tidy after use.
