Working group conveners: Doctoral Researcher Liisa Ovaska, Tampere University; University Lecturer Jari Väliverronen, Tampere University; Postdoctoral Researcher Pauliina Penttilä, Tampere University
Recent crises in journalism and changes in its working environment necessitate scholars to pay close attention to journalism’s roots and its new offshoots. What kind of effects do phenomena such as datafication, climate change, and polarization have on journalism and its consumption? What is news and who is a journalist? What kind of new opportunities and requirements arise in doing and consuming journalism?
This working group calls on researchers to investigate the roots and new offshoots of journalism from a theoretical or empirical perspective. Authors may approach the broad theme using, for instance, audiences, journalists, content, or technology as their point of departure. We also accept other kinds of presentations related to journalism. You may submit your abstract either in Finnish or in English.
