Course description

Learning outcomes

After finishing the course, the student will be able to share the basics about him- or herself in Swedish, do some small talk, read and write simple texts, order at a café or restaurant, tell the time, share opinions and discuss simple topics. He or she will learn basic grammar structures like pronouns, verbs in present and past tense, nouns and their plural forms, word order in the main clause, adjectives and prepositions.  

Contents  

This course covers the very basics of Swedish for everyday life situations. Students practice Swedish pronunciation, basic grammar and basic vocabulary in topics like family, hobbies, studies, city and transport. Other contents on the course are greetings and small talk, numbers (cardinals and ordinals), telling the time, dates and time expressions, shopping and ordering at a café or restaurant, sharing opinions, and culture and facts about the Nordic countries. 

Study materials

All the materials are available in the digital learning environment (Moodle). 

Teaching and evaluation methods

The students will study independently with the help of texts, recordings, videos and interactive exercises in Moodle and practice what they have learned in regular online meetings. The evaluation is based on exercises and assignments and both an oral and a written exam. The work load of the student is 135 h (5 ECTS). 

Active and regular completion of exercises and assignments on Moodle and attendance on the online meetings. Written and oral exam.
