The Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance (JAAF) Conference will take place 28-31 May, 2023 at the Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland, immediately after the European Accounting Association Annual Congress. The conference is arranged in collaboration with the University of Vaasa.
Plenary Sessions
Papers accepted to the Plenary Sessions will be considered for publication in JAAF and will be reviewed according to JAAF policies. Although there is an expectation that accepted Plenary Session papers will be published in JAAF, ultimate acceptance to the journal will be determined according to JAAF’s editorial policies.
C. S. Agnes Cheng and Linda Myers will serve as Editors for Plenary Session submissions. Final journal acceptance decisions will be made in consultation with Xiao-Jun Zhang (JAAF Editor-in-chief). Papers not accepted for the Plenary Sessions will be considered for the Concurrent Sessions at the option of the submitting author and can be resubmitted to JAAF as regular new submissions.
Conference expenses for Plenary Session presenters will be covered up to the amount of $1,500 USD for one submitting author per accepted paper.
There will be a best paper award for papers presented in the Plenary Sessions.
Concurrent Sessions
Papers submitted to the Concurrent Sessions only as well as papers submitted to the Plenary Sessions that are not accepted into the Plenary Sessions will be reviewed by Prof. Minna Martikainen and the local program committee (in consultation with the Editor-in-chief). Papers submitted to the Concurrent Sessions only can be submitted to JAAF as regular new submissions at a later date.
There will be two best paper awards for Concurrent Session papers, one for PhD student papers and one for other papers. In the submission, please indicate if any of the authors are PhD students.
Submission Procedures and Rules
- Papers submitted to the Plenary Sessions should be submitted through JAAF’s website at https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jaaf and the regular submission fee applies. In the submission letter, authors should indicate that the submission is for the JAAF Conference 2023 Plenary Sessions. Submission to the Plenary Sessions must also be emailed to the JAAF Conference Associate Editor, Mike Weng, at jaaf.conference@gmail.com, and authors must indicate whether the paper should be considered for the Concurrent Sessions if not accepted into the Plenary Sessions.
- Papers submitted to the Concurrent Sessions only should be emailed to Anupam Dutta at jaaf2023@uwasa.fi . A submission fee of $25 will be charged.
- The deadline for paper submission is 1 December, 2022.
- The regular submission fee for JAAF is $200 USD. For the Concurrent Sessions, there is a $25 submission fee. For more information on the submission process and payment methods, please visit the website: https://sites.uwasa.fi/jaaf2023/fees/
- Authors should submit only full papers (i.e., complete scholarly research projects that could reasonably be submitted to a public working paper database such as SSRN). Proposals will not be accepted.
- A separate file should be submitted including the title, author names, affiliations, keywords, and any acknowledgements. The main text should include an abstract and no information on the authors. .
- The submissions must be in English.
- There is no specific manuscript format and no page limit but papers should generally not exceed 50 pages.
- Presenters of accepted papers must register as conference participants.

Programme and Social Events
JAAF conferences bring together academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss research on different topics in accounting, auditing and finance. Networking, social events, and experiencing Finland, the land of the Midnight Sun, are important parts of the JAAF Conference 2023.
· The Conference Gala Dinner will be organized in the beautiful World Heritage Site Suomenlinna, the island close to Helsinki.
· Attendees can also experience the well-known Finnish Sauna Culture on the second evening of the conference.
Travelling to and Accommodation in Helsinki
Helsinki Airport consistently ranks among the best airports in the world and serves around 350 flights a day. It has 24/7 public transportation to and from the city center. You can also get to Helsinki by ferry from Sweden, Estonia or even Germany.

Previously accepted papers
If your papers have been accepted to the plenary or the concurrent sessions for the originally scheduled 2020 JAAF conference in Helsinki and the papers are not published yet in any journal, your paper can be included in the concurrent sessions. If you are interested, please forward your previous notice and email your paper to jaaf2023@uwasa.fi. You do not need to pay the $25 submission fee.
