LBG, a hub supporting the development of industry, port, and maritime transport<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In Ostrobothnia’s biogas hub, the most significant biogas use potential relates to short sea shipping and industrial use. The deployment of the gas powered ferry Aurora Botnia on the Vaasa Ume\u00e5 route opened up enormous opportunities for liquefied biomethane (LBG). W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 has also expressed interest in using LBG in its testing and piloting activities. The waste to energy plant Westenergy has also been interested in using biogas as auxiliary fuel for the power plant. Liquefied biomethane is a sustainable energy alternative even for heavy road traffic.<\/p>\n

Introducing LBG in the mentioned segments requires a significant increase in biogas production and investments in the liquefaction infrastructure. To increase biogas production in the area, new actors, innovations in business models, and new possible value chains are needed, such as advanced nutrient recycling and cooperation with the hydrogen cluster. In addition to biogas users, key actors in Ostrobothnia biogashub are the current biogas producers Jeppo Biogas and Stormossen , and potential new biogas producers in the future. Other key players are feedstock producers, technology suppliers, logistics, and gas distribution companies.<\/p>\n
