The project brings together researchers of digital media and communication, applied linguistics,\u00a0 digital economies and business, accounting and finances, and games and culture.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This multidisciplinary approach allows us to present a multi-dimensional picture of blockchain technology adoption. <\/span>Together, we discuss issues such as anonymity and digital identity, safety and financial literacy, gaming and gambling, ownership and intellectual property rights.<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>Conceptualizing Blockchains<\/em> has produced a number of presentations and publications since 2019. Implemented methodology includes both quantitative statistical methods and qualitative research of linguistic and cultural context in a variety of texts, such as annual company reports, publications in Finnish and international press, and social media (e.g. Twitter). These tools allow us to foresee <\/span>societal consequences of distributed public ledgers and <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ground our ideas in sound empirical research.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Directions of research<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Stages and narratives of blockchain adoption in organizations;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Representations of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in journalism;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Blockchain and Bitcoin in social media: adoption and public mood;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Values of cryptocurrencies and the public discourse;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Digital rhetorics of cryptocurrency markets;<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Networks and communities on and around blockchain platforms;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Societal consequences of blockchain technologies, and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The research project Conceptualizing Blockchains sheds light on how ideas and concepts of specific cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies in general are constructed, discussed, and applied in the society.
